Stock Gift = Smart Gift
Donating stock directly to St. Pius X Catholic High School is one of the most tax advantageous ways to give. Say you have a share of Apple stock you purchased at $50 a share a few years ago. Today, those shares are worth $175 a share. If you sold that share, you would pay capital gains tax on the $125 gain, giving a portion of your gain to the government. Instead, if you donate that share to St. Pius, you get to deduct the full $175 as a charitable donation, while forgoing the capital gains tax. You can then take the $175 in cash you planned to donate and purchase the stock back, effectively increasing your basis in Apple stock.
Donating stock is simple. St. Pius X alumnus and current parent Steve Maloof ‘85 generously oversees all stock transactions for the school. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to give stock directly to the school from a brokerage or trust account.
1. Contact your broker and indicate the number of shares you are donating to St. Pius X.
2. Ask your broker to transfer the securities to the St. Pius X account:
UBS Financial Services Inc.
For Credit: Account #AT22499144
Name of: St. Pius X Catholic High School
(UBS will liquidate the securities and send the proceeds to St. Pius X.)
3. Please inform the St. Pius X Office of Advancement of the following information by emailing Ann Marie Edwards at email@example.com or by calling her at 404-633-4290 ext. 282:
a. Name of the stock and the number of shares.
b. Your name, address, and telephone number.
c. The purpose of the gift, i.e., the campaign to which the gift is earmarked.
d. The date of the gift. (This is so we can be aware of the donation, have a copy for our records, and anticipate the arrival of the funds.)
You may mail, fax, or email the information to:
