Works of Mercy - Fall 2020 Guidelines

Students and parents needing forms or more detailed information regarding Works of Mercy
should access the Student Handbook.

Over the last few months, Campus Ministry has had the unique opportunity to see and hear first hand how many opportunities for service have been postponed, adapted, or even cancelled. While this can be very hard on our community, and the communities we serve, we understand that these decisions have been made for the health and safety of all involved. With that, Campus Ministry understands that students may have had (and will continue to have) a challenging time meeting a service requirement.

This fall semester, we are asking students to only complete one service project. This may be a choice project (see the handbook for further explanation) or a Work of Mercy project. This project is due by December 8th, 2020 at 4:00pm, in conjunction with our original first semester turn in date. We are encouraging families to be creative with how they can give back to the community during this time, but please make sure that any service project fits within the guidelines for acceptable projects in our handbook. If you have questions about project ideas, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Bettencourt or Fr. Rey.  As the pandemic evolves and changes, we will re-evaluate the spring semester requirement. Please know that our first priority is keeping our community and the communities that we serve safe and healthy.

Projects may only be turned in at this time via Google Form. Please follow the instructions on the Google Form for submission. We will also have more detailed instructions on the Campus Ministry PSL page. All the same questions are being asked of students as if it were a paper copy, just submitted digitally. We apologize if there have been students over the summer who have filled out project forms and will have to re-submit via Google Form. For the safety of all involved, we are testing a digital only turn in process. Please DO NOT bring hard copies of service project paperwork to Campus Ministry.

Service At St. Pius X Catholic High School

As a Catholic school, rooted in Christ, the Catholic Church, and our school motto, we are committed to performing Works of Mercy and serving the greater community. Therefore, we require that our students complete the Works of Mercy service requirement as part of their formation at St. Pius X Catholic High School. Our motto, Domini Sumus - "We are the Lord's" (Rom 14:8) is an important reminder that we are called to be Christ to others, to be witness of the Gospel, and to serve those who are most in need by our actions and words. We bring God's love and compassion to those who are most in need when we reach out and perform Works of Mercy. We also serve the common good by performing performing service for the greater community.

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Service Award
Annually, Campus Ministry awards 1 student from each grade the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Service Award. This award is given to the student in each grade that models the virtues of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to service and performing Works of Mercy that far exceed the minimum requirements of the Works of Mercy Service Program.
