College Signing Day Held to Celebrate 21 Student Athletes

ATLANTA - St. Pius X Catholic High School celebrated 21 student-athletes who plan to continue their sporting careers in college with one big College Signing Day in the Mark Kelly Gymnasium on Tuesday, April 21. 

Family members, fellow team and class mates, teachers, staff and many from the SPX community packed the MKG to wish the future NCAA athletes well, and hear words of congratulations and praise from their coaches. 

Students from nine different sports were represented, including two from the historic 33-0 boys basketball team, who won the first boys title in program history this past March. Harris Reynolds, who will play next season at Clemson University, was presented with a basketball from head varsity coach Will Cloyd, representing his record 42-point single-game effort at Tucker. D'Marley Elliott received the same for setting the program all-time rebounding record, and will take his talents to Columbus State University this fall. 

Two girls lacrosse players were celebrated by two very special people, their dads. Darby Carter, who has scored over 150 goals in 3 seasons for PiHi, will move on to play at NCAA D1 school Radford. Her father, Scott, who was inducted into the SPX Athletics Hall of Fame as a lacrosse and swimming coach last October, gave an emotional speech to his star daughter. Same goes for Ryan Tober, who has coached his daughter Madeline for most of her life. Madeline will play at Ohio Wesleyan next season. Both girls went from signing day to senior night at Maloof stadium and scored goals in a big win over Lakeside.
