The Harvard Debate Council was founded in 2017 in an effort to increase minority representation at the program's summer residency. Sophomore Darryl Cooper has passed three debate "auditions" for the program and is one of 26 students in the State of Georgia who made the final cut on Sunday, September 23. Cooper will begin training with the program and hopes to be one of the 400 students selected from across the nation to train under Harvard's coach on the school's campus this summer. Training... The Speech and Debate Team competed in the North Hall Debate Tournament this past weekend. Congratulations to Joey Tarnowski '20 for taking first place at the tournament! This is in addition to his quarterfinal finish at the University of Kentucky tournament in early September.

Five students were named Semifinalists in the National Merit Program, which is awarded to the highest-scoring participants in each state. Ahead of the St. Pius X vs. Marist game this Friday, September 14, Coach Paul Standard was featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Four Questions" article. GHSF Daily's Four Questions feature historically poses the same questions to a different Georgia head coach each issue. St. Pius X will be hosting our Fall Blood Drive on Thursday, September 27 in the gym. Be a part of giving the gift of life! All student sign-ups will be in the breezeway outside the cafeteria during lunches Monday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 19. The Golden Lion women's cross country team recorded a perfect score at the Peachtree Ridge Stage Races over the weekend. Morgan Vaden paced the lady harriers with a time of 12:10 over the two-mile course. Only one other women's cross country team has recorded a perfect score at the Stage Races since 2000. The Golden Lions are back in action on September 1 at the Berry College Invitational.
