Nelson to Lead Boys' Lacrosse Program
Director of Athletics Todd Mooney announced the promotion of Mr. Doug Nelson to the position of Coordinator of Boys Lacrosse at St. Pius X Catholic High School. Coach Nelson has served as an assistant with the SPX Lacrosse program since 2015.
"We are blessed to have someone so committed to our program ascend to this leadership role. I'm excited for Doug to stabilize the boys lacrosse program and provide it with the continuity and technical and tactical development necessary to compete at a championship level," said Mooney.
Prior to his arrival at St. Pius X, Coach Nelson spent 10 years assisting the program at Decatur High School 2005 to 2014, and three years as an assistant at The Westminster Schools from 2001-2003. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. During that time, Coach Nelson competed four seasons for the Georgia Tech club program and served as the club's head coach for a season after completing his playing career.
"I am honored to be part of the St. Pius X program and family. From my very first practice in January of 2015, our students have impressed me as wonderful, respectful young men. My job as Coordinator of Boys Lacrosse will be to build them into a disciplined, athletic lacrosse team that expects excellence," said Nelson.
Coach Nelson has been married to Farah for 20 years. They have two children. Cody, 17, is a junior at St. Pius X and plays goalie for the lacrosse team. Ashley, 12, is finishing 6th grade in the Dekalb County Kittredge Magnet School.
