Former Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons player, Brian Jordan, helped present the award to Lord. “I was one to overcome an obstacle in my life to continue my dreams and to see Josie on that same path with similar experiences is really special. I wish her well.”

As a celebration of her success, Lord will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the four-day Battles Won Academy, held in Washington, D.C. in July 2019.

MaxPreps picks one female and one male athlete each month to be named with the honor of High School Athlete of the Month, presented by the United States Marines Corps. MaxPreps sends out emails to all members of their site about nominating an athlete for the award. There are also links on for anyone looking to nominate a deserving athlete for this award. A coach, parent, peer, or teacher may submit nominations. MaxPreps then selects the most well rounded athletes that match the qualities that are also found in the United States Marines Corps, such as bravery, dedication, perseverance, personal sacrifice for others and being a positive influence in one’s community.
