Clinic
Welcome to the St. Pius X Clinic
St. Pius X has three health professionals who work tirelessly to promote and preserve overall health, injury treatment and prevention, and referral to other professionals for further care. The school employs the following:
- One full-time school nurse
- Two full-time athletic trainers
The overall health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is the highest priority of the clinic, which is staffed by a registered nurse available to support the school community’s health-related needs on campus. Open daily, from 7am-3:10pm, the clinic offers a wide range of services, from illness and injury management to the monitoring of chronic conditions. The clinic works closely with the counseling department to help provide holistic care for our students.
Clinic Services
Illness & Injury Assessment
The clinic is equipped to assess and manage illness as it occurs during the school day, as well as to provide first aid for injuries. The clinic also manages students with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, seizure disorders and migraines.
Medication Management
Over the Counter Medication: The clinic is not allowed to dispense over the counter medications, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Students are allowed to keep those medications in their backpack (enough for one school day) as long as the medication is in the original, labeled container.
Prescription Medication: Many of our students require prescribed medication to be given during the school day. This is handled in the clinic and requires that a Medication Permit Form be on file. The clinic will work out a schedule for administration with the student and parent(s).
Post-injury Accommodations Management
The clinic believes that healing is the priority after an injury is sustained and therefore, works closely with the Athletic Trainers, the Study Support Department & Counseling Office to manage post-injury accommodations. Examples include concussion accommodations and post-surgery accommodations.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
There are 8 AED defibrillator devices around the campus. St. Pius X is a Project SAVE designated school through Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
