HEAD COACH GIRLS' GOLF
Rachel Braham, entering her 14th season as girls’ golf coach at St. Pius X, has a long history with the school. Her family moved often when she was young – Texas, New Hampshire, Florida, Arkansas, and Georgia – but she ended up at St. Pius X in the middle of her sophomore year, graduating with the class of 1986. Although she spent several years in the corporate world and teaching at another Atlanta school, she returned to St. Pius X where she taught journalism for nine years. She became Dean of Students in 2007, a job that involves pretty much everything about student life not related to academics and athletics. In 2005, former golf coach Laura Novotny-Beaver asked her to take over the girls’ golf team. Since then, she says, there hasn’t been a day when she hasn’t been proud of the girls and the hard work of the team as a whole. She particularly remembers the excitement of the 2005 season when St. Pius X came in second in the region for the first time: “It was like The Masters, Super Bowl, World Series, and Stanley Cup rolled into one! That was HUGE excitement for us that day. We’ll always remember it. It was our first time really being successful in competition.” The team has continued to improve itself, winning region in 2007 and 2008 and posting individual and team scores which have become competitive in the Atlanta area.
ASSISTANT COACH GIRLS' GOLF
Coach Hauck has been a valued assistant and administrator to the Golden Lion Golf Program since 2011 when he arrived from a stint as Head Coach at West Hall High School. Coach Hauck is a legend in Pennsylvania Junior Golf, and he brings an incredible amount of program-building insight from his years of developing programs from the ground-up. He is a ferociously loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan, and he can be counted upon from year to year to draw from his science background and love of groundhogs to help forecast early/late Spring weather for our golfers! Coach Hauck's daughter played 4 years of Golden Lion Golf so he is particularly attuned to the girls' program. Coach Hauck is the Science Department Chair during the school day.
