Coach Kirkland is an Atlanta native, and attended Cross Keys and Hart County High Schools where he played football, wrestled, and threw shot and discus. Craig went on to pursue athletics and academics at Clemson University where he earned a BS in Business Management in 1988. As a college athlete, Craig played football (defensive line) at Clemson University 1982-1986 and was fortunate enough to participate in both the 1982 and 1983 ACC Championship seasons. After returning to Atlanta, Craig began coaching with the Atlanta Colts Youth Association in 2004. He coached each age of tackle football including intraleague Peewee to the 8th grade Colts travel team. During his time with the Atlanta Colts Youth Association, Craig participated as an assistant coach, head coach and board member. He enjoyed many championships with all ages and wrapped up his time with the Colts being named Northwest Georgia Youth Football League’s Coach of the Year 2021. Beginning with middle school sports, Craig and his wife Kelly watched their three boys (Hunter-2017, Davis-2019, James-2022) play football, wrestle, and run track for the SPX Golden Lions 2013-2022. Today, Hunter is working for a US Congressman in Washington D.C. Davis attends Georgia Southern University and is majoring in Construction Engineering, and James is beginning his academic studies at University of Georgia
