Middle School Football parents meeting is
Tuesday August 6 at 6:30 pm in the Young Center
All Middle School Golden Lion Football Players, we will begin weight training every Monday, Wednesday, Friday starting June 3 from 7am to 9:30am . We will meet in the stadium to take attendance and from there move to the weightroom or designated spot. You will need athletic shorts, t-shirt and athletic shoes. Cleats are optional, as we will be running after lifting and sometimes cleats do work better. Please bring a water bottle. Sweats are optional. And you must have a completed physical on file.
BILLY EGAN, HEAD 8TH GRADE COACH
Billy is starting his fifth year coaching at St Pius X. As alumni from the class of 1985, Billy was fortunate to have played several years for legendary coach George B. Maloof. After graduating from St. Pius X, Billy went on to play football at Presbyterian College, where he lettered for three years as a wide receiver. Billy has coached football for 10 years in the Gwinnett Football League at the Collins Hill Athletic Association. Additionally,he has coached several years in lacrosse, baseball and basketball. His teams have consistently advanced through the playoffs and have won numerous Gwinnett County Championships in several sports. Beyond his coaching responsibilities, he has served on the Executive Board of the Collins Hill Athletic Association for eight years as the President. He is celebrating his 24th year of marriage this November to his wife, Wendy. They have two sons, Reed (SPX ‘16), currently attending UGA, and Connor (SPX ‘19).
CHRISTOPHER BENJAMIN, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
Christopher (SPX ‘80) played football under Coach George B. Maloof, was a teammate of Coach Paul Standard, and also lettered in basketball. Coach Benjamin begins his 10th year at St. Pius X as a community coach. He graduated with a B.A. from Duke University,and received his JD/MA from the University of Minnesota. Coach Benjamin has worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since 1989. Christopher coached youth football and baseball in the Sandtown Youth Sports Association in southwest Atlanta for eight years. Christopher has two children, Chris (20), a 2016 SPX graduate and Alexandra (17), a 12th grader at SPX.
STAN KLINGER, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
Coach Klinger begins his eighth season as the Offensive Coordinator for the St. Pius X 8th grade football team. He is a native of Atlanta and graduate of Druid Hills HighSchool. He received a scholarship to play football in the Southern Conference at Davidson College, where he was a four year starter on the football team, and also lettered in wrestling and track. Stan was later inducted into the Druid Hills High School Hall of Fame for his academic and athletic accomplishments. He is a trial lawyer and lives in Dunwwody with his wife Eve. All three of their children graduated from St. Pius X; Amanda (‘10), and former SPX football players Grayson (‘13) and Ransom (‘16). Stan is in his 13th year of coaching youth football. Prior to St. Pius X, he coached for the Atlanta Colts, where his Division I travel teams won back-to-back North Metro Football Championships in his final two seasons. In five seasons as the Colts Head Coach, his teams amassed a record of 40-14, culminating in a perfect final season in 2010.
BRIAN GEE, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
Coach Gee (SPX 2010) returns to his alma mater, where he played football and basketball for four years. A First-Team All-State defensive back (free safety), Coach Gee went on to play safety for four seasons in college at Cornell University. This season will be Brian’s third year as a coach at St. Pius X. He is very excited about the opportunity to work with the players and continue to pass down the priceless lessons he learned from Coach Standard and the rest of his current and former football staff.
JUSTIN HARRIS, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
A 2010 graduate of St. Pius X, Justin returns for his fourth season on the 8th Grade Football Coaching Staff. During his time at St. Pius X, Coach Harris played basketball and football for four years. A first-team all-region tight end, he went on to play defensive end at Cornell University. Coach Harris graduated from Cornell in December of 2014 with a degree in Economics. Coach Harris is extremely excited about the opportunity to be a mentor to the players and help them develop both on and off the field. Justin’s younger brother Nick Harris (SPX 2014) was a first-team all-state basketball stand-out at St. Pius X, and currently plays basketball at the College of Charleston. Both are alumni of St. John Neumann in Lilburn, Ga.
JAMES MILLS, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
A 2012 graduate of St. Pius X, James played offensive tackle under Head Coach Paul Standard and position coach Chad Garrison, earning 1st Team All-State offensive linemen as a senior. Coach Mills played college football at Fort Valley State University, and is currently finishing his degree in Mass Communications at Georgia State University.
BRIAN CONNORS, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
Brian (SPX 2010) begins his second year as a member of the middle school coaching staff. Brian began his career at St. Pius X in 2004 with the middle school program. He played wingback throughout his career at St. Pius X, and went on to play at Catholic University. Brian is a graduate of Catholic University (2014) with a degree in Finance. He currently works in medical equipment sales in the Atlanta area and lives in Chamblee.
JOE CROCHET, ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE COACH
Coach Crochet (SPX 2012) returns to his alma mater, where he played and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. A First-Team All-State linebacker, Coach Crochet went on to be a college All-American linebacker, team captain, and graduate with his MBA from The Citadel. He also was a starter for the 2015 and 2016 SoCon Championship teams. This season will be Joe’s first year back as a coach at St. Pius X. He is very excited about the opportunity to work with the players and continue to pass down the priceless lessons he learned from Coach Standard and the rest of his current and former football staff.
This year's Banquet will be held on Sunday, October 27 from 1:00PM-4:00PM in the SPX Cafeteria
