Middle School Football - Parent/Player info mtg on
Thurs. May 4th at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria at St. Pius X.
Middle School Strength and Conditioning sessions will begin March 1st, and will run Mon, Wed and Thurs from 4:30pm to 5:30pm through April 26th (except during school holidays). No registration required; these sessions are optional, free, and are open to all middle school athletes, including rising 9th graders.

TERRY OWENS, 7th grade head coach
Coach Owens enters his 26th year as a community coach. He is the head coach of the 6th & 7th Grade Football program. Coach Owens started his career at the University of Alabama, then transferred to Jacksonville State University, and was signed by the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He & his wife, Donna, have 5 children, Terry Lee, Alexis, Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Natalie, and currently 7 grandchildren.
RONNY CONE, 7th grade assistant coach
Coach Cone has been at St. Pius X for over 20 years as a community coach. He attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. Coach Cone was drafted by the New York Jets and played three years with that team as a running back. He has been a youth league coach for 35 years . He and his wife Janet have three children; Kevin, 31, Zachary 29 and Amy,26.
MIKE FANNON, 7th grade assistant coach
Coach Fannon has been a volunteer middle school coach for more than 20 years. He is a proud SPX graduate class of 1974. He was a 3 sport letterman his senior year playing basketball, track and a member of the 9-1 football team that recorded 6 shutout wins under legendary Hall of fame Coach George B. Maloof. He comes from a St. Pius X family where all 8 children graduated from St. Pius. He is married to Paula Thomas a 1982 graduate of SPX for over 30 years. His 2 daughters naturally are also St. Pius graduates, Danielle 2007 & Megan 2009.
CRAIG KIRKLAND, 7th grade assistant coach
Coach Kirkland is an Atlanta native, and attended Cross Keys and Hart County High Schools where he played football, wrestled, and threw shot and discus. Craig went on to pursue athletics and academics at Clemson University where he earned a BS in Business Management in 1988. As a college athlete, Craig played football (defensive line) at Clemson University 1982-1986 and was fortunate enough to participate in both the 1982 and 1983 ACC Championship seasons. After returning to Atlanta, Craig began coaching with the Atlanta Colts Youth Association in 2004. He coached each age of tackle football including intraleague Peewee to the 8th grade Colts travel team. During his time with the Atlanta Colts Youth Association, Craig participated as an assistant coach, head coach and board member. He enjoyed many championships with all ages and wrapped up his time with the Colts being named Northwest Georgia Youth Football League’s Coach of the Year 2021. Beginning with middle school sports, Craig and his wife Kelly watched their three boys (Hunter-2017, Davis-2019, James-2022) play football, wrestle, and run track for the SPX Golden Lions 2013-2022. Today, Hunter is working for a US Congressman in Washington D.C. Davis attends Georgia Southern University and is majoring in Construction Engineering, and James is beginning his academic and athletic career at Drake University.
GREGG SOHA, 7th grade assistant coach
Coach Gregg Soha begins his first year as a volunteer St. Pius X Middle School football coach. He has helped with the St. Pius X Middle School wrestling program since 2019 and has coached many youth or middle school teams since 2008. Since 2015 he has contributed to and coached football at ACYA. He has been blessed with a fantastic wife (Sweet Sue) for 23 years, and three sons Andrew ('22), James ('25) and John (8th grader at OLA). Loves the Golden Lions, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish ('91), and the Green Bay Packers!
This year's Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 1:00PM-3:00PM in the Young Center at St. Pius X.
