7th Grade Football

 

All Middle School Golden Lion Football Players, we will begin weight training every Monday, Wednesday, Friday starting June 4 from 7am to 9:30am . We will meet in the Donnellan Center Weight Room. You will need athletic shorts, t-shirt and athletic shoes. Do not need cleats. Sweats are optional. And you must have a completed physical on file.

St. Pius Medical History and Physical Examination 2018-2019

TERRY OWENS, 7TH GRADE HEAD COACH

Coach Owens enters his 24th year as a community coach. He is the head coach of the6th & 7th Grade Football program. Coach Owens started his career at the University of Alabama, then transferred to Jacksonville State University, and was signed by the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He and his wife, Donna, have five children: Terry Lee, Alexis, Jacqueline, Elizabeth and Natalie. Coach Owens currently has six grandchildren. All five children attended and graduated from SPX.

RONNY CONE, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Cone begins his 17th year at St. Pius X as a community coach. He attended Georgia Tech on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. Coach Cone was drafted by the New York Jets, and played three years as a running back. He has been a youth league coach for 36 years. He and his wife, Janet, have three children: Kevin (30); Zachary (28); and Amy (25).

MIKE FANNON, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Fannon (SPX ‘74) played football under the legendary coach George B. Maloof and also lettered in football, basketball and track his senior year. After graduation, he was a member of the Youngstown State football team. He then coached four years of high school football, as well as two years of middle school football in Ohio, before returning to Georgia and coaching the last two years at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. Coach Fannon has been a volunteer with the Golden Lion football program for 15 seasons. He was also junior varsity coach at SPX in 1996. Coach Fannon spent 27 years with the DeKalb County Police Department and has been a police officer at Georgia Piedmont Technical College in Clarkston for seven years. He has coordinated police security for sporting events and dances at St. Pius X for the last 33 years. His wife, Paula Thomas Fannon, SPX ’82, is a past President of the St. Pius X Alumni Board. He has two wonderful daughters: Danielle, SPX ’07, also a past President of the Alumni Board, and a graduate of Kennesaw State, and Megan (SPX ‘09), a Georgia Southern graduate and current throws coach for the Track & Field program. Megan is a new kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic school.

BO ZIMMERMAN, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Zimmerman enters his sixth year of working with the 6th & 7th grade receivers & defensive backs. He is a 2004 graduate of St. Pius X, where he played wide receiver for four years under Head Coach Paul Standard. Bo also played four years of basketball for the Golden Lions.

WIL ASIP, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Asip begins his sixth year coaching Middle School Football at St. Pius X. He coaches the Running Backs and Defensive Backs for the middle school program. Coach Asip began his football career at St. Pius X, playing Tailback and Safety under Coach Owens for the Middle School team during the 2001 and 2002 football seasons. Coach Asip is a 2007 graduate of St. Pius X, where he played Tailback for four years under Coach Standard. During his senior year, the team made it to the State Semi-Finals in the Georgia Dome. He also ran track for St. Pius X (2006 State Champions). Coach Asip, a graduate of Georgia Southern University, with a degree in Construction Management, works in Project Management for a General Contractor in Atlanta. He and his wife Beth live in Brookhaven.

JAMES BERRY, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Berry begins his third year at St. Pius X, and 10th overall as a middle school community coach. He has served as a head coach in the Forsyth County Youth Football Association, defensive coordinator at Fellowship Christian School, and position coach at both St. Francis and Holy Innocents’. He played high school football at River North Academy in Macon, Georgia from 1975 through 1978, and was part of the 1976 GISA AA state championship team. A 1984 graduate of Georgia Tech, he and his wife Priscilla have been married 26 years and have two college age children, Ryan (23) and Margaret (20).

RYAN HOLMES, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH

Coach Holmes enters his third year with the middle school program as an offensive and defensive line coach. A 2012 graduate of St. Pius X, he played football for seven years as a Golden Lion. In his time at St. Pius X, Coach Holmes also wrestled and played lacrosse. He attended Georgia Southern and is now working for a medical supply company in Atlanta. 

This year's Banquet will be held on Sunday, October 28 from 1:00PM-4:00PM in the SPX Cafeteria
