Coach Bailey has been teaching and coaching at St. Pius X since 2002.  This will be his fifth year as the coach for boys tennis. Prior to tennis, he coached the varsity boys soccer team for eight years, taking them to four final fours and winning the State Championship in 2009. During his time here, he has also been the varsity assistant coach for girls volleyball, boys golf, and strength and conditioning. Prior to his time at St. Pius X, Coach Bailey coached at a private high school in Huntsville, Al. for six years and here in Atlanta for two years at Holy Innocence.  While in Huntsville, Coach Bailey led the varsity boys soccer team to five Final Fours, three state finals, and won the 1A-4A State Championship in 2000.  He also served as the varsity head coach for the girls basketball team and assistant head varsity coach for both girls volleyball and boys basketball teams.  While at Holy Innocence, Coach Bailey was the head boys varsity golf coach and assistant head varsity boys soccer and basketball coach.

Coach Bailey is currently a member of both ALTA and USTA as well as playing matches in T2 and Ultimate Tennis leagues.  He plays both men's singles and doubles out of Peachtree Station in Norcross, Ga.  He lives in Norcross with his wife Sheri and son Easton.



Coach Byrd retired from St. Pius X in 2017 after 40 years of service to the school. During the first phase of his career he was the Director of Guidance. Most recently, he served as the Director of Admissions. He also coached basketball with his best friend, Mark Kelly, for 25 years. Perhaps most importantly, he was the head boys tennis coach for 35 years. Coach Byrd was blessed with many talented, dedicated players during his tenure and they captured numerous region and state titles. He was also named state Tennis Coach of the Year four times.

Coach Byrd has been married to his lovely wife, Lynn, for 50 years. They have three children (Roshan, Kristoff, & Devin) who attended St. Pius X. Coach Byrd's hobbies include travel, biking, sailing and teasing his 4 grandchildren!



Elijah started playing tennis at the age of 8, and reached as high as 3 in the state of Alabama. Upon moving to Georgia, he competed in state, regional, and national level tournaments. He reached as high as top 10 in the state Georgia, top 25 in the South, and top 75 in the country. He competed on the tennis team at Georgia Tech for all 4 years in the ACC conference, which is the most competitive conference for tennis in the country. He played as high as #2 in singles and #2 in doubles, notching wins over opponents ranked as high  as top 20 in the country in the NCAA singles rankings, and as well as against 2018 NCAA championship team #1 Wake Forrest. He competed at a professional level as well, defeating a few professionally ranked players in his career. 

Elijah grew up in Mobile Alabama and moved to Suwanee Georgia when he was 11. He is the youngest child of Julie and Chris, with two older siblings named Lauren and Gabe. Elijah was homeschooled his entire life and now enjoys spending time with friends, being outdoors, and playing drums. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in May of 2018 where he received a Bachelors in Science studying Business Administration concentrating in Information Technology. During his senior year in college he married his lovely wife, Eve, who is currently attending Physicians Assistant School at Mercer University for the next two and a half years.
