The band program at St. Pius X Catholic High School boasts a robust offering with opportunities for every type of musician. Whether you've been playing your instrument for a year or 5 years, we have a place for everyone in our program. The Marching Golden Lions, our most visible group, rehearses and performs regularly during the fall. Students in the MGL support the football team on Friday nights, and performs competitively on Saturdays in October. Our concert/symphonic band program performs multiple concerts throughout the year, consistently earning high ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluations in the Spring. Our jazz band brings together students who have a passion for jazz, and performs on our spring concert.
In addition to our performing ensembles, our students consistently represent the band program at district and statewide events such as the University of Georgia's January Band Festival, Georgia Music Educator's Association District Honor Band and All State, Governor's Honors, and many others.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the renowned St. Pius X Band Program, we have a number of opportunities for 6th-8th grade students. You can also check out our informative video on the front band page of this website. Please feel free to contact band directors Chad Paetznick (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Ian LaBreck (email@example.com) with any questions.
Youth Honor Band
All middle school students with at least a year's experience on their instrument are invited to join the Youth Honor Band. This is a group of middle school students who perform side-by-side with high school volunteers on the St. Pius X Spring Band Concert. The YHB, under the direction of Mr. Paetznick, meets every Wednesday in the spring from 3:30-5:00 in the St. Pius band room. Signup forms will be posted here soon, so check back often!
Marching Golden Lion Apprenticeship
Every fall, 8th graders from around the area are invited to perform with the Marching Golden Lions at every home game. These students play with the marching band on the field for pregame, then head to the stands to play with the band and cheer on the team for every home football game. This is a great opportunity for 8th grade band and colorguard members to experience being a Marching Golden Lion for a season!
Our award winning colorguard is open to all students (even those who don't play an instrument!). The colorguard is part of the Marching Golden Lions, and is solely extra-curricular with no prior experience necessary! This stunning group focuses on dance and flag technique and performs and rehearses with the band throughout the fall. If you have any questions, please contact our guard instructor Mrs. Samantha Diaz at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please join us for spin clinics on April 13th, 27th, and May 11th from 10:30am-1:30pm in the band room. No prior experience is necessary!
Incoming Student Auditions
We invite all interested 8th grade students to our informal audition/interview process on Wednesday, April 17th (this is a change to the previously scheduled date) from 3:15-5:00pm in the band room. We will have current band students present to show you in, and we will have some current band parents available to answer questions and provide insight. We recommend all interested students stop by during this event or reschedule with Mr. LaBreck (email@example.com). Please sign up using this form.
