Mission Team Returns from Successful Trip to Nicaragua
June 19th, 2012
The St. Pius X Mission Team returned from a successful trip to Nicaragua on June 9. Twenty-two newly graduated students and five adults travelled to Mustard Seed communities for just over a week. During the week, the team continued work on completing the foundation for a 125 person capacity Chapel on the property of Mustard Seed Communities in Diriamba, Nicaragua. This Chapel will be used for daily devotions, daily Mass, and as a place of prayer for the local community. The team was eager to continue work on the Chapel as the foundation had been dug by another team of St. Pius X students over spring break. By completing the foundation, St. Pius X has built a spiritual foundation for the children of Mustard Seed and the local Catholic community in Diriamba. In addition to hard work, the team spent many hours developing relationships with the children of Mustard Seed, all of whom are orphans and have mental and physical disabilities. They range in age from five months to 30 years old. The time spent with the children was a highlight each day for the team.
Over the spring break week next year, two teams of St. Pius X students will travel to both Mustard Seed Jamaica and Mustard Seed Nicaragua. In addition, another team of students will be travelling to a location in the continental United States to serve during that same time. Information about the 2013 mission trips will be available in August.
