St. Pius X Golden Lions
Amie McDougal, Head Varsity Softball Coach
Coach McDougal begins her 5th year as part of the Golden Lion Softball program. She was a four year Varsity starter at Chamblee Charter High School and was named All American her Junior and Senior Year. She continued her career at the Collegiate Level after receiving a full 4 year softball scholarship to Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Coach McDougal was named 1st Team All-Conference her junior year. She is excited to be a part of the St. Pius X family. “Discipline and Consistency” are valuable lessons Coach McDougal has learned and wants to pass on to the student athletes as a key to a successful life.
Don Coleman, Assistant Varsity Softball Coach
Coach Coleman returns to the Golden Lions staff in 2017 for his thirteenth year. Coach Coleman is the Assistant Varsity Coach and Pitching Coach. He has coached fastpitch softball for twenty-three years. His experience includes coaching at Agnes Scott College, Chamblee High School and Decatur High School. He is a current board member and past president of Murphey Candler Girls Fast pitch Softball Association. He is a managing attorney with Atlanta Legal Aid Society. Coach Coleman and his wife of thirty-one years, Jean, are proud parents to two grown daughters, Tiffany and Andrea.
Melissa Ginther, Assistant Varsity Softball Coach
Coach Ginther begins her fourth season with the Golden Lions softball program. She joined the faculty at St. Pius X as a teaching member of the Theology Department in the Fall of 2014. Prior to coming to St. Pius X, she worked at the Catholic Church of Saint Monica in Duluth as one of their youth ministers for three years. Coach Ginther grew up playing softball from a very young age and was awarded a full scholarship to play on the college level. Over the course of her college experience, she was also able to complete two years serving as a Catholic missionary. She recently finished her Master’s Degree in Theology from Franciscan University.
Trey Broussard, Assistant Varsity Softball Coach
For the past 10 years Coach Broussard (SPX ’01) has worked as a member of the English department at St. Pius X teaching freshmen, juniors, and seniors, the head JV softball coach for three seasons, and the head Freshman baseball coach for one season. This year he joins the Varsity softball program as an assistant coach. During his tenure he has also been involved in a number of activities including but not limited to: chaperoning mission trips to Jamaica; serving as a moderator for the freshman class; serving on the advisory board for the Lion Leader program; facilitating A/V needs for tech crew; and serving as a moderator on the Honor Council. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Valdosta State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. He and his wife, Dr. Meredith Miller, reside in Dunwoody and have two dogs, Maddux and Kingston.
Loren Southwick, Assistant Varsity Coach
This is Coach Southwick’s fifth year coaching at St. Pius X. A retired Sales and Marketing Executive from the computer and data communications industries, Coach Southwick is now a substitute teacher at St. Pius X. A graduate of the University of South Florida, he also attended Georgia Tech for his undergrad studies and attended graduate school at Georgia State University. Coach Southwick has over 45 years of playing experience in baseball and softball including 20 years of Men’s Open Fast Pitch. A multi-talented athlete, Loren ran cross-country while attending Georgia Tech and also spent time with the Minnesota Twins organization. He is always ready to talk softball and is excited about the continued opportunity to help the team at St. Pius X.
