Summer Enrichment Courses
Pius is pleased to offer several summer enrichment courses. These courses can serve as a refresher or preparation for a fall course. All courses are offered the last 2 weeks in July, and last for 2 hours/day. Courses run for 4 days each.
Courses offered are:
This course is for students going into Geometry. We review some Algebra One topics (Radicals, Equations, Formulas, Graphing, Parallel and Perpendicular lines, and factoring). I go over tips and strategies for studying in Geometry. They spend some time reading and making notecards for the first chapter of their book. We go over some Geometry basics (Points, Lines, Segments, Segment Addition Postulate, Angle Addition Postulate, and Complementary and Supplementary Angles).
This course is for students going into Algebra 2. We review Algebra One topics so when they are faced with the Algebra 2 material, they aren’t trying to remember or relearn the Algebra One material but can focus on the new material. The topics covered are Simplifying/Evaluating Expressions, Solving Linear Equations, Graphing, Simplifying Radical and Exponential Expressions, Simplifying Polynomials, Factoring, and Solving Quadratic Equations by Quadratic Formula and Factoring.
This course is for rising 9th graders going into Algebra 1. It is a course meant to strengthen the student’s math foundation and allow them to meet new classmates, explore the school and let them experience SPX in a relaxed setting. The topics we cover are Integers, Fractions, Decimals, Simplifying and Evaluating Expressions, and Solving Equations.
