Girls' Basketball Opens Season Saturday
November 16th, 2016

The Golden Lion girls' basketball team will lift the lid on the 2016-17 season when they travel to the Progressive Lighting Holiday Classic at North Forsyth on Saturday.  St. Pius X will take on the Northview Titans, ranked No. 9 in AAAAAA, at 3:30pm. The lady cagers will then meet either Johns Creek or host North Forsyth on Monday in the second round.

The Golden Lions return four starters from last year's 17-11 team which advanced to the state tournament for the sixth consecutive season, losing to Northwest Whitfield in the first round.  Four-year letter winner Leah Middleton returns along with All-Region selections, juniors Macey Carson (First Team) and Kathryn McKenzie (Third Team) anchoring the post.

After Thanksgiving, the ladies will travel to Gainesville on November 29, before opening the home season December 2 against Carrollton at 7pm.

St. Pius X moves to Region 8-AAAA this season with Jefferson, Madison County, North Oconee, Oconee County and Stephens County.  In addition, this year all Friday night games will begin at 7pm unless otherwise noted.

The Golden Lions will also host the 16th annual Christmas Classic December 28-30.  McGill-Toolen, the 7A state runners-up in Alabama last season, will be the first round opponent on Wednesday, December 28 at 6pm.
