Medical Staff

Coach Schmitt, a certified athletic trainer, is in his 14th year as the St. Pius X Athletic Trainer. Before coming to St. Pius X, Gary worked with world renowned orthopedic surgeon James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. He has also worked preseason camps with the Atlanta Falcons. Originally from Wisconsin, Coach Schmitt earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and then moved south to earn his Master’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University.





Coach Walker is a 2010 graduate of Redan High School. In May 2014, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from Valdosta State University. She became Athletic Trainer Certified in July 2014 by the Board of Certification. She is currently in her second year at Georgia State University working on her Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine with a Teaching Certificate for K-12. She enjoys basketball and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Mautner serves as the Golden Lions team doctor. He has been on staff at Emory Sports Medicine since 2004. He completed his Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Mautner majored in biology and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He took a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Emory University School of Medicine, before completing his Fellowship in Sports Medicine. He is active in professional organizations, including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American College of Sports Medicine, and North American Spine Society. He currently serves as head team physician for Agnes Scott College and Emory University Athletics. He is also a consulting physician for Georgia Tech Athletics, Neuro Tour, the Atlanta Ballet, and several local high schools. Dr. Mautner has several areas of clinic interests ranging from diagnostic ultrasound evaluations, regenerative injections, sports concussions, as well as sports hernias and spine pain in athletes.


Dr. Cooper practices general and cosmetic dentistry with the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Cooper serves as the Team Dentist for the Golden Lions and is also the official dentist of the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders. Dr. Cooper received a B.A. with honors in Science Education at Mississippi State University, a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, and performed a General Practice Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Cooper is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, Georgia Dental Association and American Dental Association. He has studied at the world famous Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. He is a regular participant in the “Give Back a Smile” Program in which he and his office donate their time and skills to help battered women achieve new smiles. In addition to spending time with his family, Dr. Cooper enjoys golf, tennis, hunting and coaching youth football at Northside Youth Organization.
