Student Selected for NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing
May 14th, 2012
Congratulations to Rachel Ponce de Leon ‘13, who has been chosen by the National Council of Teachers of English as one of its outstanding writers in the 2012 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing program. Rachel is one of four students from Georgia and one of 274 from across the nation given this honor.
The Achievement Awards in Writing program was established in 1957 to encourage high school students in their writing and to recognize publicly some of the best student writers in the nation. Assessments of student writing are based on students’ samples of their own best prose or verse and on a themed writing. Two teachers judge each submission. The St. Pius X English department has nominated juniors since 1969. Rachel’s English teachers—Carrie Stockard, Mike Scirocco, and Jan Collier—congratulate her as the 37th student to receive this award.
