Informational Meetings Regarding Random Drug Testing
January 19th, 2017

Dear Parents:

I want to bring to your attention meeting dates and times about the new random drug testing program presented to you in an earlier correspondence from the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Diane Starkovich. The random drug testing policy will go into effect in August with the start of the 2017-18 school year.

The program will be implemented by all the Archdiocesan Catholic high schools, including Marist, and we will join many of the other independent schools in the Metro Atlanta area in an effort to provide our students with a proactive response to the enticement and peer-pressure of experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

We will hold four information sessions at St. Pius X and invite you to attend one. The purpose of these sessions is to explain the implementation of the policy and address any concerns you have as parents of St. Pius X students participating in the random testing. The presentation will be made in conjunction with St. Pius X administration, our Chaplain, the Superintendent, and the President of Strategic Prevention Education Compliance Group (SPEC Group--the firm that will conduct the testing).

These meetings will be held in the Young Center Auditorium on the following dates:

Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, January 24 at 8 a.m. & 2 p.m.
Thursday, January 26 at 7 p.m.

I hope you will be able to attend one of these sessions in our effort to empower you as the primary educators of your children as we assist them in making responsible decisions at this vulnerable time in their lives.

Warmest Regards,

Steve Spellman
