St. Pius X Golden Lions
CHAD GARRISON, Head Coach
Coach Garrison returns for his fourth year as the Head Coach of the Golden Lion Baseball program. This is his 19th year at St. Pius X and marks his 28th year of coaching in high school athletics. He also serves as an Assistant Athletic Director and Physical Education Department Chair. A graduate of North Georgia College, his previous stops include Campbell High School and The Lovett School. He and his wife of 30 years, Barbara have three children: Kelci (SPX '09), Mackenzie (SPX '13), and Brennan (SPX '16).
MIKE LANCASTER, Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Lancaster is beginning his 40th year of coaching and 9th season with the St. Pius X Catholic High School baseball program. Additionally, Coach Lancaster is the Head Varsity wrestling coach and Head Freshman football coach at St. Pius X Catholic High School. Coach Lancaster spent 35 years teaching and coaching in the metropolitan Atlanta area, retiring from the Gwinnett County Public School System in June of 2014. Coach Lancaster and his wife, Lisa, have two children, a son, Marc, and a daughter, Laura.
ANDREW MABINI, Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Mabini (SPX '10) begins his fifth year with the Golden Lions. Coach Mabini will work with the varsity pitchers and middle infielders in 2019. Previously, he was an assistant middle school coach (2015) and the head coach of the freshman team (2016). His objective is not to just grow young men on a baseball diamond, but to help them grow as young men in their everyday lives. Coach Mabini attended Maryville College as a student-athlete where he played middle infield for the Scots baseball team. As a coach he strives for his players to do the right thing, be the best they can be, and care about the people and tasks that surround them every day in fruition that they can make a difference and do great things in the world. He is in his first year as a teacher at St. Pius X in the Business / Computer Science department.
Coach Leiner begins his sixth year with the Golden Lions Baseball program. He began his coaching career at St. Pius X as an assistant basketball coach under legendary basketball coach and athletic director, Mark Kelly. Coach Leiner went on to coach basketball, baseball and soccer during his first 9 years at St. Pius X. Most of Coach Leiner’s coaching experience has been in the sport of basketball, where he has coached for over 26 years as both a high school and college coach. Coach Leiner returned to St. Pius X in 2008 as an Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach. He also served as the Head Coach of the Golden Lions Fastpitch Softball program for three seasons (2014-16). He is happily married and has two children, Jonathan (SPX ‘13) and Lindsay (SPX ‘15).
PAUL STANDARD III, Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Standard (SPX '09) begins his second year with the Golden Lions. Previously, he has assisted with the summer league teams for St. Pius X baseball program. Coach Standard went to LaGrange College as a student-athlete where he played safety for the Panther football team and received his Bachelor's in History. He went on to earn a Master's in secondary education at The Citadel. While he was in graduate school, Coach Standard was a Graduate Assistant Coach for The Citadel's football team. Coach Standard is a part of the Social Studies and Physical Education departments at St. Pius X, teaching U.S. History and Health & Wellness. He also is an assistant coach for the Golden Lions varsity football team.
Coach Broussard (SPX ’01) is in his third season with the Golden Lions baseball program. He has worked as a member of the English department at St. Pius X for the past 12 years. Previously, he was a member of the Golden Lion Fast Pitch Softball staff (Head JV Coach, 2014-16; Assistant Varsity Coach, 2017). During his time at St. Pius X, he has been involved in a number of activities including but not limited to: chaperoning mission trips to Jamaica; serving as a moderator for the freshman class; serving on the advisory board for the Lion Leader program; facilitating A/V needs for tech crew; and serving as a moderator on the Honor Council. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Valdosta State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. He and his wife, Dr. Meredith Miller, reside in Dunwoody and have two dogs, Maddux and Kingston.
Coach Tippett returns for his fourth year as a member of the Golden Lion Baseball staff. As a catcher, he was a standout player at Lakeside High School where he was named All-DeKalb County Gold Glove (2013), 2nd team All-DeKalb County (2013), 1st team All-DeKalb County (2014), Pre-Season All-American (2014) and 1st team All-Region (2014). In 2015, Coach Tippett played baseball at the University of North Georgia and was named to a Peach Belt Conference Presidential Scholar. Currently, Coach Tippett is a student, majoring in Biology (Pre-Med) at Georgia State University.
Coach Ksionzyk (SPX '05) returns for his seventh season as a coach for the Golden Lions. He was a standout player for St. Pius X, and a member of the first team in school history to advance to the state quarterfinals (2004). Coach Ksionzyk played for two seasons at Pitt Community College (Winterville, NC), where he led the 2006 team in hitting with a .430 average and was named second team all-conference. In addition to coaching at St. Pius X, he also coaches a 13-year old travel baseball team out of Decatur. He is a graduate of Georgia State University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Coach Ksionzyk works in technology sales at Jacada and lives in Clarkston with his dog, Peaches. He and his fiancée, Marie Phelan (SPX '06), are looking forward to their upcoming wedding.
Coach Ogle (SPX '06), returns for his ninth season as a member of the Golden Lions coaching staff. While a student at St. Pius X, Coach Ogle was a member of the baseball team. In addition to coaching at St. Pius X, he also coaches a 13-year old travel baseball team out of Decatur. He works for an engineering firm in Alpharetta and lives in Brookhaven with his dog, Cooper.
JAY KAPP, Head 8th Grade Coach
After more than a decade away, Coach Kapp (SPX ‘94) returns to the Golden Lions coaching staff. He was a head coach in our middle school program for three seasons (2000, 2005-06) and the head junior varsity coach for four seasons (2001-04). Coach Kapp's 2003 team won the North Metro JV Tournament. Additionally, he was the assistant varsity coach for the Golden Lions Fastpitch Softball team for five seasons (2002-04, 2006-07), and helped the 2007 team advance to the state quarterfinals. When not on the diamond, you can find Coach Kapp working at Kapp Koncepts, a digital marketing and graphic design firm he founded in 2001. Coach Kapp and his wife, Jenniffer (SPX ‘94), live in Dunwoody with their three children: Charlie (13), Madeline (9) and Julia (2).
PAUL BENOIT, Assistant 8th Grade Coach
Coach Benoit (SPX '15) joins the Golden Lions coaching staff for the 2018 season. He was a pitcher and outfielder for the Golden Lions and helped the team set a school-record for wins (29) and advance to the quarterfinals of the state tournament during his senior season. While attending Carnegie Mellon University, he was a member of the club baseball team. Currently, Coach Benoit is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Robotics.
ARTHUR EBBS, Head 7th Grade Coach
Coach Ebbs enters his first season with the Golden Lions coaching staff. He has coached baseball at Druid Hills Youth Sports for the past several year and is a past member of the board of directors. Coach Ebbs practices law with the law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (US), LLP with a focus on commercial litigation. He lives in Atlanta with his with Teresa Hungeling Ebbs (SPX '98) and children Liam (12), Arthur (10), Audrey (8), and Charlotte (5). The Ebbs are parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary.
ED HONG, Assistant 7th Grade Coach
Coach Hong enters his first year as a member of the Golden Lions baseball staff. He is also the head coach of the Golden Lions middle school softball team. This past fall, in Coach Hong’s second season, the team went 22-3. Coach Hong also has experience coaching at Murphey Candler Baseball and Murphey Candler Girls Softball Association over the past four years. During the daytime, he is the Vice President of Retail Operations for Clipper Petroleum. Coach Hong and his wife, Carol Anne, live in Tucker with their two children: Elizabeth (14) and Daniel (12).
