St. Pius X Golden Lions
CHAD GARRISON, Head Coach
Coach Garrison begins his second year as the Head Coach of the Golden Lion Baseball program. This is his 17th year at St. Pius X and marks his 26th year of coaching in high school athletics. After a 25 – 7 / GHSA AAAA Quarterfinals appearance in 2016 Coach Garrison is very excited about the prospects for 2017. He also serves as an Assistant Athletic Director and Physical Education Department Chair. Coach Garrison has been the Varsity Football Offensive Line coach for each of his years at SPX. From 2006 – 2011 he was the Head Track & Field coach at St. Pius X. During those six seasons his teams won a Boys and Girls State Championship in 2006, had two State Runner-up finishes and won multiple Region Championships. Coach Garrison was named the Track & Field Coach of the year by the Atlanta Track Club and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He has also been named the GHSA Assistant Coach of the Year in multiple sports over the last twenty five years. A graduate of North Georgia College, his previous stops include Campbell High School and The Lovett School. He and his wife of 28 years, Barbara have three children; Kelci, 25 (SPX 2009), the Head Basketball and Middle School FB Cheerleading coach; Mackenzie, 21 (SPX 2013), a senior at Georgia Southern; and Brennan, 19 (SPX 2016), a freshman at Georgia Southern.
MIKE LANCASTER, Assistant Varsity (Infield, Hitting) Coach
Coach Lancaster is beginning his 38th year of coaching and 7th season with the St. Pius X Catholic High School baseball program. Additionally, Coach Lancaster is the Head Varsity wrestling coach and Head Freshman football coach at St. Pius X Catholic High School. Coach Lancaster spent 35 years teaching and coaching in the metropolitan Atlanta area, retiring from the Gwinnett County Public School System in June of 2014. Coach Lancaster and his wife, Lisa, have two children, a son, Marc, and a daughter, Laura.
ANDREW MABINI, Assistant Varsity (Pitching, Infield) Coach
Coach Mabini begins his third year with the Golden Lions. After a year with the middle school program and then as the Head 9th Grade Coach, in 2017 Andrew takes over the reigns as the Varsity Pitching Coach. His objective is not to just grow young men on a baseball diamond, but to help them grow as young men in their everyday lives. Andrew is a St. Pius X alumni and went to Maryville College as a student-athlete where he played middle infield. As a coach he strives for his players to do the right thing, be the best they can be, and care about the people and tasks that surround them every day in fruition that they can make a difference and do great things in the world.
PATRICK WRIGHT, Assistant Varsity (Outfield, Hitting) Coach
Patrick “Coach P” Wright is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He is an alumnus of The Lovett School (Class of 1990), where he was a member of their first of many baseball state championship teams. He is also a product of the East Cobb Astros. He graduated from Northwestern University (Class of 1994) with a B.A. in Psychology while playing football and baseball. He also has a Master’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University (Class of 1998) and a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Cambridge College (Class of 2007). Coach P has been working in the educational field for the last twenty years as a guidance counselor/graduation coach and athletic coach. Coach P played for two years in the Boston Red Sox organization and four more years with several Independent League organizations. Coach P has been on the coaching staff at Berkmar High School, The Lovett School (winning a state title as an Assistant Coach), and McEachern High School (making it to the Elite Eight as an Assistant Coach). Coach P was the Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Clark Atlanta University for a season and a half and was the Head Baseball Coach for one season. He was the Head Coach of the Lady Falcons Fast-Pitch Softball Team and was on the coaching staff as an Assistant Head Baseball Coach at Pebblebrook High School in 2009-10. He was the Head Baseball Coach at The Weber School from 2011-13, where he earned GISA Coach of the Year in 2011 and making the State Playoffs each year. He then moved to Redan High School as the Head Baseball Coach from 2014-16 making the State Playoffs in 2016. He is currently the Head Coach of the 2016 Sunbelt Prospect Collegiate Baseball League Champions Titans Prospects. Coach P is married to Jennifer Hogan Wright (Clemson, Class of 2000) and the father of a beautiful daughter Mia and handsome son Chase Patrick. Coach P is excited to now be a Golden Lion and a part of the great coaching staff at St. Pius X.
GARY LEINER, Head Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Leiner begins his fourth year with the Golden Lions Baseball program. He began his coaching career as an assistant basketball coach under then Head Basketball Coach and current St. Pius X Athletic Director, Mark Kelly. Coach Leiner went on to coach basketball, baseball and soccer during his first 9 years at St. Pius X. Most of Coach Leiner’s coaching experience has been in the sport of basketball, where he has coached for over 26 years as both a high school and college coach. Coach Leiner returned to St. Pius in 2008 as a Boys’ Basketball Assistant. He has also served as the Head Coach of the Golden Lions Fast pitch Softball program for the past four seasons. He is happily married and has two children, Jonathan (SPX ‘13) and Lindsay (SPX ‘15).
TREY BROUSSARD, Head Freshman Grade Coach
Coach Broussard (SPX ’01) begins his first season with the Golden Lions baseball program. He has worked as a member of the English department at St. Pius X for the past 10 years teaching freshmen, juniors, and seniors, as well as coaching the JV softball team for the last three seasons. During that time he also has been involved in a number of activities including but not limited to: chaperoning mission trips to Jamaica; serving as a moderator for the freshman class; serving on the advisory board for the Lion Leader program; facilitating A/V needs for tech crew; and serving as a moderator on the Honor Council. This will be his first season coaching baseball at St. Pius X; his extensive baseball background, which includes playing for the Golden Lions while a student at St. Pius X, and overall love for the game led him to want to pursue a coaching position. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Valdosta State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. He and his wife, Dr. Meredith Miller (counseling psychologist at St. Pius X), reside in Dunwoody and have two dogs, Maddux and Kingston.
BOBBY TIPPETT, Assistant Junior Varsity & Freshman (Catchers) Coach
Coach Tippett, a Lakeside (DeKalb) graduate, begins his second year as a member of the Golden Lion Baseball staff. While playing as a catcher for the Vikings he was named All County Gold Glove and 1st Team All – Dekalb County. He was also named a Pre-season All American and All Region in 2014. Coach Tippett played collegiately at the University of North Georgia where he was name a 2015 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll Scholar. Prior to joining the St. Pius X staff, Coach Tippett was a coach for local travel baseball teams and private baseball instructor for five years. He’s currently attending Georgia State University for a Biology (pre-med) degree.
KEVIN KSIONZYK, Head Middle School (White) Coach
Coach Ksionzyk (SPX '05) returns for his sixth season as a coach for the Golden Lions. An Atlanta native, Coach Ksionzyk played 2 years of JUCO baseball at Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC. He finished his education at Georgia State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He currently works in technology sales at Jacada and is living in Clarkston, GA with his dog, Peaches.
BRIAN OGLE, Assistant Middle School (White & Gold) Coach
Coach Ogle (SPX '06), returns for his 8th season with the SPX Middle School teams. He is currently living in Brookhaven and working for an engineering firm in Alpharetta as the head of their controls department.
