St. Pius X Musicians Receive Honors
January 5th, 2017
Several St. Pius X students have received honors for their musical talents over the past few weeks. Megan Anandappa, Nicholas Glenister, and Marie Grace will participate in the Honors District Band and Mia Park will receive her award at an upcoming piano recital.
Anandappa, Glensiter and Grace were all selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association District IV Honor Band in early February. The musicians were selected out of the more than 100 students to audition. Additionally, Anandappa (flute) and Grace (baritone saxophone) have qualified for the second round of auditions for All-State Band this weekend. The All-State Band performs in March and is one of the most prestigious honors a high school instrumentalist can achieve.
Park earned a Graduation Senior Award from the Atlanta Area Suzuki Piano Association (AASPA), Atlanta's leading piano organization following the principles of music instructor Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. The award is presented by AASPA to graduating high school seniors performing in a Suzuki Graduation Concert, to recognize the commitment of continuing piano study through their senior year. Park will perform at Spivey Hall on Sunday, 15 January in AASPA's 40th Graduation Concert. Her chosen piece is the first movement of Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Pathetique by Ludwig van Beethoven.
