St. Pius X Golden Lions
BILLY EGAN, HEAD 8th GRADE COACH
Billy is starting his fourth year coaching at St Pius X. As a class of 1985 alumni, Billy was fortunate to have played several years for legendary coach George B. Maloof. After graduating from St. Pius X Billy went on to play football at Presbyterian College where he lettered for three years as a wide receiver. Billy has coached football for ten years in the Gwinnett Football League at the Collins Hill Athletic Association. Additionally he has coached several years in lacrosse, baseball and basketball. His teams have consistently advanced through the playoffs and have won numerous Gwinnett County Championships in several sports. Beyond his coaching responsibilities, he has served on the Executive Board of the Collins Hill Athletic Association for eight years as the President. He is celebrating his 23rd year of marriage this November to his wife Wendy and they have two sons, Reed (SPX '16), currently attending UGA and Connor (SPX '19).
CHRISTOPHER BENJAMIN, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
Christopher (SPX '80) played football under Coach George B. Maloof, was a team mate of Coach Paul Standard, and also lettered in Basketball. Coach Benjamin begins his ninth year at St. Pius as a community coach. He graduated from Duke University with a BA and the University of Minnesota with a JD/MA. Coach Benjamin has worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since 1989. Christopher coached youth football and baseball in the Sandtown Youth Sports Association in SW Atlanta for 8 years. Christopher has two children, Chris (19) a 2016 SPX graduate and Alexandra (15) an 11th grader at SPX.
STAN KLINGER, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
Coach Klinger begins his seventh season as the Offensive Coordinator for the St. Pius X 8th grade football team. He is a native of Atlanta and graduate of Druid Hills High School. He received a scholarship to play football in the Southern Conference at Davidson College, where he was a four year starter on the football team and also lettered in wrestling and track. Stan was later inducted into the Druid Hills High School Hall of Fame for his academic and athletic accomplishments. He is a trial lawyer and lives in Dunwwody with his wife Eve. Their three children all graduated from St. Pius, Amanda (‘10) and former SPX football players Grayson (‘13) and Ransom (‘16). Stan is in his 13th year of coaching youth football. Prior to St. Pius, he coached for the Atlanta Colts where his Division I travel teams won back-to-back North Metro Football Championships in his final two seasons. In five seasons as the Colts Head Coach, his teams amassed a record of 40-14, culminating in a perfect final season in 2010.
BRIAN GEE, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
Coach Gee (SPX 2010) returns to his alma mater, where he played football and basketball for four years. A First-Team All-State defensive back (free safety), Coach Gee went on to play safety for four seasons in college and graduate from Cornell University. This season will be Brian’s third year as a coach at St. Pius X. He is very excited about the opportunity to work with the players and continue to pass down the priceless lessons he learned from Coach Standard and the rest of his current and former football staff.
JUSTIN HARRIS, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
A 2010 graduate of St. Pius X, Justin returns for his 3rd season on the 8th Grade Football Coaching Staff. During his time at St. Pius, Coach Harris played basketball and football for four years. A first-team all-region tight end, he went on to play defensive end at Cornell University. Coach Harris graduated from Cornell in December of 2014 with a degree in Economics. Coach Harris is extremely excited about the opportunity to be a mentor to the players and help them develop both on and off the field. Justin’s younger brother Nick Harris (SPX 2014) was a first-team all-state basketball standout at Pius and currently plays basketball at the College of Charleston. Both are also alumni of St. John Neumann in Lilburn, Ga.
JAMES MILLS, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
A 2012 graduate of St. Pius X, James played offensive tackle under Head Coach Paul Standard and position coach Chad Garrison earning 1st Team All-State offensive linemen as a senior. Coach Mills played college football at Fort Valley State University and is currently finishing his degree in Mass Communications at Georgia State University.
BRIAN CONNORS, 8th GRADE ASSISTANT
Brian (SPX 2010) joins St. Pius X for his first year as a member of the middle school coaching staff. Brian began his career at St. Pius X in 2004 with the middle school program. He played wingback throughout his career at St. Pius X and went on to play at Catholic University. Brian is a graduate of Catholic University (2014) with a degree in Finance. He currently works in medical equipment sales in the Atlanta area and lives in Chamblee.
