2.  The Reference Section
(it's not just the World Book!)

The link below leads to a list of some excellent resources called SUBJECT and SPECIALIST ENCYCLOPEDIAS.  Since many of them contain essays which are more in-depth than a general encyclopedia, your teacher may accept one or two as a resource for your paper.  Please ask your History teacher to be sure.

Britannica is a good online starting point for background information.

JStor
is an archive of scholarly journals.
SIRS Knowledge Source contains key articles about social issues, government information, and a humanities database.

Try their Decades feature, which could prove to be very helpful for this project.

Historical Newspapers: New York Times

The complete print run of what is considered the newspaper of record in the US.  Covers events going back to the mid-1800s.

Student Resource Center finds primary documents, biographies, overview essays, background information, and critical analyses on any subject.
