    • Tell student(s) to give the pass to the librarian as they enter
    • Students who misbehave will be told to return to class
  • Librarians can sign and return passes if you like
  • Students should use the Learning Lab to make up tests

Sending students to the library from Study Hall or Unassigned Duty:

    • Pages 12 and 13 of the Faculty/Staff Handbook address the policy on this issue -

“Juniors and Seniors who are in study hall are there because they are Academic Probation students or Discipline Contract students who are not permitted to have an unassigned period while they are on discipline contract. These students are not permitted to leave the study hall for any reason: not for the restroom, not to go to their locker and not to go to the library. They must remain in the study hall for the entire period and must be doing work. No sleeping!”

  • Sign up on the calendar in the librarians' office with as much advance notice as possible
  • Be sure to note any special set up needs

Digital Video Project Guidelines

Read this before you plan your assignment.

  • Freshmen learn Moviemaker in their intro computer class. Half of the freshmen class will not learn it until second semester. Therefore it makes sense not to assign digital video projects to your freshmen classes.
  • Consult with Ken or Robin before you assign the project. We must know what you're doing, with who, and when so that we can be prepared to support your students and appropriate the required equipment.

Some things to consider as you are creating your project requirements:

  • School resources are limited.
    • Limited # of cameras
    • 3 computers for video editing.
    • Personnel
  • Students must use digital cameras if they want to edit.
  • We can convert 8mm to VHS or DVD.  Conversion takes approximately 24 hours.
  • Recording tapes must be purchased. They cost approximately $8.00.
  • Cameras may need to be charged before use.
  • Students using their personal cameras must bring all accessories, cables, etc. if they want to edit at school.
  • Cameras will check out for 2 days.
  • Students should save their work to their own flash drive. 2 Gig is recommended.
  • Video editing with Moviemaker is not difficult but file management is tricky. If you are assigning a project using this software we strongly recommend that you try it first so that you have the knowledge to help your students and assess the projects in a meaningful way.

Long -term checkout of equipment:

  • Each department should make a list of needs, to avoid duplication.
  • Some equipment may be checked out and kept in the classroom for the year.
  • Long term equipment should be requested only for items used daily or very often.
  • Requests for long term equipment is based on supply and demand. (i.e. not enough CD players are available for every classroom to have one, but overheads can usually be provided to all).

LCD projectors:

  • Follow procedures in troubleshooting manual when problems occur
  • Contacts:
    • Maintenance (John Podhorez) – for cleaning, power, ceiling installation, audio problems
    • Library (Ken Vesey) – for lamps, focus, VCR/DVD, ordering equipment
    • Technical services (Kyle Johnson/Patrick Manalastas) – for cables, computer problems
    • Business Manager (Tony Stephens) – to report stolen equipment, request purchases

And finally – remember that we are here to support student learning, which naturally includes supporting the classroom teacher and integrating the library program and information literacy into the curriculum. We love to toss ideas around, share favorite reads, pass on great websites and articles, and have a good laugh as often as possible.

“You see, I don't believe that libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians.”
— Monty Python skit
