**SPX GOLDEN CUB VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM**

We want to thank everyone for attending in this event. It's been amazing to see so many young players be part of this great sport. We hope you will be interested in participating in our Middle School Volleyball Program during the FAll. Please leave your contact information with Coach Dun via email (click on the name to be linked to his email address) if you would like to be part of our SPX Family. We will try to take as many players as possible with the top two teams (Gold and Navy) competing against other schools, and if we have enough interest for more teams, they will practice and be involved in inner league competition. We will try and have some more opportunities for our Golden Cub players to stay active with the sport over the summer - please continue to check the website.

**LOOKING AHEAD TO 2009**

For many, the volleyball season continues on through club and I want to wish all those participating the best of luck. It is an experience you should enjoy and learn from - every point, every game, every match, every mistake, every success, every defeat, every victory...use it to GROW. We want you to come back the start of the high school season as giants.

2009 season, the roster will be wiped clean once again and tryouts will determine which names will earn a spot on the team. There are three main criterias considered in the evaluation process: physical ability (speed, power, vertical touch, etc), skill performance (ability to execute on the court), and the intangibles (leadership, energy, coachability, effort, etc). I think it's important to set goals to push ourselves toward a destination and I want to challenge everyone with a couple of physical measurements (those already able to achieve these marks, please work to improve on previous year's numbers):

OH/RS - 9'3" approach jump / 8'11" block jump

MH - 9'5" approach jump / 9'1" block jump

DS/Setter - 17" vertical / 28 - 3M touches (30 sec)

Physical conditioning must be a year round process and I hope everyone makes an effort in taking part in becoming a more powerful team. Tryouts will be the first week of August and physical testing will be performed on July 31, 2009.
