Pius Finishes 3rd at Region Championship

Traditions of Braselton Golf Club was a pretty busy place during the week of April 24th, 2006.  The newly opened Mike Dasher course held its first two major high school championships on back-to-back days that week.   The one that mattered most to Golden Lion fans was certainly the second of the two held Tuesday, April 25th.  By watching the conclusion of the Region 8-AAAA tournament as it unfolded the day prior to the 6-AAAA Championship, Pius golfers witnessed some solid golf; they definitely gained confidence in knowing that their preparation over the past few months would put them right in the heart of the golfing competition in their region.

Region 6-AAAA, one of the most competitive organizations in the world of Georgia High School golf, lived up to its reputation on April 25th.  First place Etowah High School (300), Marist School (312), St. Pius X (313) and Alpharetta High School (318) all bested the champion's team score set the day before by the Region 8-AAAA field.  Unfortunately for Pius and the Knights of Alpharetta, only the top two teams from 6-AAAA by rule could advance to the State AAAA Championship.  Despite the events that ended their season, Pius took consolation in placing three of their golfers within the field's top eight (Brent Modak, 76; Randall Allen, 77; Jacob Keen, 78).  Two weeks later, hearing that Etowah and Marist had finished 2nd and 3rd at the AAAA Championships, respectively, filled the boys with pride in the strength of region 6-AAAA.
