VARSITY COMPETITION COACH

HEAD CHEERLEADING COACH

   This is Ms. Batres' sixth year as a competition squad coach and head coach of the St. Pius X cheerleading program, and her seventh year coaching at SPX. She has also served as the head coach for the Varsity football squad and has coached the Pius Varsity and JV basketball squads.    In 2007 she was named the GACA Region Coach of the Year for helping lead the competition squad to a second region championship in a row. 

    Prior to her tenure at St. Pius X she cheered at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where she was captain of the squad her senior year.   After moving to Atlanta in 1997, she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies at Christ the King School and coached the middle school cheerleading squad for 5 years.

     She is a member of GHSA and GCCA, and is NFHS certified. Ms. Batres has her B.A. in History and her M.A. in Teaching, both from Trinity University in Texas . This is her 7th year at St. Pius. She teaches American History, Government, and Economics here at St. Pius X.  Ms. Batres is currently pursuing a Law Degree at Georgia State University College of Law. 

KATHRYN WINLAND
VARSITY COMPETITION COACH

    Mrs. Winland returns to our coaching staff after helping the squad to its second consecutive region championship in a row.   Her husband, Joe Winland, teaches English at Pius and coaches JV baseball and Varsity softball. Formerly a member of a nationally competitive squad and a gymnastics instructor, Kathryn has many years of first-hand experience with competition cheerleading and related activities. She is a member of GHSA and GCCA.

    Mrs. Winland is a magna cum laude graduate of Oglethorpe University, where she majored in English. She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at Georgia State University while working as a research manager for Mozaic Group.
