Choral
Director - Gail Goodman
Mrs.
Goodman joins the St. Pius faculty this year as the choral director.
For the past five years, Mrs. Goodman has accompanied the chorus,
under the direction of Chad Paetznick, and prior to Chad, under
Richard Marcus' direction.
Mrs.
Goodman is presently music minister at Holy Cross Catholic Church
in Tucker, where she accompanies both the traditional adult choir
and Crossfire Teen Band, as well as directing the adult traditional
choir and cantors. Gail has entered her tenth year as a full-time
music minister and is grateful to her pastor, Father Patrick Kingery,
a Pius alumni, for allowing her to double-dip in the musical pool.
Prior
to being hired by Monsignor Paul Fogarty as music minister, Gail
taught school at Immaculate Heart of Mary School as music teacher
for one year. Teaching all grades K-8 was fun, fulfilling
and challenging. Gail also prepared music for the school masses
and worked with Father Fred Wendell who was pastor at that time
at IHM.
Gail
actually has accompanied the Celebration choir at Holy Cross for
almost 20 years, so church music and liturgy are ingrained in her
past. She even served on the music ministry team a few years
back, assisting Rebecca Rose and enjoyed working with the singers/musicians
in their efforts to bring music into the liturgy.
Mrs.
Goodman. although residing in Georgia for the past twenty-one years,
is a native Oklahoman. Her alma mater is the University of
Oklahoma, where she graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts, concentrating
in Acting/Directing.
She
directs a musical yearly at Holy Cross; the proceeds to benefit
the St. Martin de Porres Ministry and homeless of Atlanta.
Presently, she is directing at St. Thomas More Church in Decatur
(for her former pastor, Monsignor Fogarty), and they will be presenting
"The Wizard of Oz" in September.
Gail
hopes to bring a renewed enthusiasm to the chorus and looks forward
to working with students from past years, as well as new ones.
Being director of a "chorus" allows her to play with secular
songs as well as sacred ones and as always, working with students
will be a new, fun direction for her.
