Marching Band
.
The
award-winning 'Marching Golden Lions' band performs at every home
varsity football game, one away game, and also performs at competitions
and fun events throughout the fall. The group normally goes on a
major trip every other year. Informal auditions are held in the
spring to be in this group. Game performances, afterschool rehearsals
(3 per week), and contest events (3 Saturdays) are required. Summer
camp at SPX (Mid-July) is also required. Due to the amount of activities
the marching band is involved in, all members 'letter' in band when
they register for their second year of this course. The group switches
to symphonic band for the annual Christmas concert.

Symphonic Band

The
Symphonic Band class is held during second semester. The Symphonic
Band performs intermediate to advanced music literature. To be in
this group, a student must enroll in Marching Band first semester
(as a pre-requisite) or have already participated in Symphonic Band
at SPX prior to the 2007-08 school year. The group normally performs
at an adjudicated festival event each year. The group also performs
two required concerts during the school year.

Concert Band

The Concert Band class is
offered first and second semester. The Concert Band course develops
and strengthens basic technique through scales and music literature
ranging from basic to intermediate. The group normally consists
of students who are active in St. Pius fall sports, (which makes
them unable to participate in Marching Band) but still want to continue
playing and developing on their instrument. The Concert Band plays
two to three required concerts per school year.
