Mr. Spellman has served as principal at St. Pius since July, 2000. Popular with the students, his leadership has also brought about dramatic improvements to the St. Pius X facilities. He has also overseen the school's SACS accreditation in 2000 and 2005.
Steve began his teaching career at Briarcliff High School where he taught for five years. He then went to the University of Georgia where he earned his Master's (M.A.) and Specialist's (Ed.S) degrees and coached swimming. He then joined the Gwinnett County Public Schools teaching at both Central Gwinnett and South Gwinnett High Schools. Steve was twice named the Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year. He then moved to the Gwinnett County Central Office to assume the position of Executive Director to the Superintendent and Board of Education, a position he held until he assumed the principalship of St. Pius X.
Steve is a Leadership Gwinnett graduate, a member of the Leadership Gwinnett
Advisory Board, a founding member of the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team,
and the past chair of the Gwinnett County United Way board.
Steve is married to St. Pius X alumna, Maureen O'Shea, and they have two
children, a son and a daughter.
