Volleyball Team Opens Regular Season Tuesday at Chattahoochee
August 14th, 2012
The volleyball team will open the St. Pius X sports calander today with two matches at Chattahoochee High School. They open at 6:00 pm with a chance to get a little revenge on Roswell High School, who upset the Golden Lions in last years Lovett Block Party pool play. The 7:00pm night cap is against a Chattahoochee squad that finished its 11-12 season finished ranked #17 in the nation by MaxPreps.
The Golden Lions will be led gy two returning all state outside hitters, senior captain Emily Morrison and junior Leah Hardeman. Leah was also named area 5AAA Player of the Year last season. Both have committed to D1 schollarships at UT Chattanooga and Costal Carolina respectively. The team also returns its leading hitter from last year, senior Kallan Arvidson, who will be used this year in all three hitting positions. Defensively the team will be led by two returning seniors, libero and captain Bianca Borough and captain Erin Villella. The team has a logjam at setter where three girls will compete for playing time, junior Katrina Connolly, senior Amanda Stitt and sophomore Molly Gunn. The offense is rounded out with the greatly improved Kathryn Maloof in the middle and a set of five newcomers battling for the last slot in the starting offense; Kasey Mack, Ryan Boykin, Taylor Fazzone, Peyton Osborne and Hannah Hazy.
Come on out and see the team open their season against some quality opposition on Tuesday as they strive to become St. Pius X's first state championship volleyball team after finishing just a little short last year.
