St. Pius X Golden Lions
Ryan McClay (Head Coach/distance) - Ryan is entering his 7th year of coaching at St. Pius X. He has won 5 straight state cross-country titles and 2 state track titles in six years. He graduated from Dacula High School after running cross country for three years and track for two under Andy Christie. He then went on to run collegiately at Berry College. While at Berry he raced in 7 National Championship races in Cross Country and track. After college he coached in Tyler, TX for one year before coming back to Georgia. He is married to Katie McClay and together they both continue to run races ranging from 5k to the marathon. They are have a child named Ashton.
Daniel White (Varsity sprints/Hurdles/High Jump) - Coach White brings 18 seasons of coaching experience and 22 years of teaching experience to St. Pius X. After teaching and coaching stints in Texas--Beeville, Cedar Hill, and Episcopal High School (Houston), Coach White moved to Atlanta to be the head boys basketball coach at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School, where he remained for eight years. After spending two years at The Walker School in Marietta, White came to St. Pius X, where he teaches sophomore and junior English. In addition to being an assistant track coach (hurdles and high jump), he is also the freshman boys basketball coach. As a high school student, White ran cross country and track, and he continued to compete while in college, first at Angelo State University, and later at the University of Texas-San Antonio. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the UTSA and his master’s in English from the University of North Texas.
Jason Eaglen (Throws/Pole Vault) - Coach Jason Eaglen returns to the St. Pius X Track and Field Team for the 2015 Season as the Throws Coach and adds Pole Vault. Coach Eaglen joined St. Pius X in 2008 as a Theology Teacher. Since then, he has become the Theology Department Chairperson, the Varsity Assistant Swim and Dive Coach, and the Assistant Fastpitch Softball Coach. He loves being a part of all facets of the St. Pius X community, and is thrilled to lead such a vibrant and enthusiastic group of throwers. He is especially impressed with the senior leadership among his corps, and looks to them to cultivate future leaders within the throwing ranks. Coach Eaglen is happily married to Amy Eaglen, the Front Office Receptionist at St. Pius X, and is the proud father of four children.
Megan Fannon (Throws/Pole Vault) - This is Coach Fannon's third year working with the varsity and junior varsity St. Pius X track and field teams. Coach Fannon graduated from St. Pius in 2009 after being a four year member of the SPX track and field team. Coach Fannon went on to throw collegiality at Georgia Southern University excelling in the indoor weight throw as well as the hammer throw. She graduated in 2013 with a Sport Management degree with a minor in Business. She is currently pursuing her masters degree at Mercer University although she remains a loyal Georgia Southern Eagle at heart. HAIL SOUTHERN! Coach Fannon recently become a certified Level 1 USA Track & Field Coach. When she is not at track practice, you can find her coaching the basketball cheerleaders at SPX in the winter time. She loves to spend any free time she has watching all sports at SPX, Georgia Southern football with her friends and her family. Coach Fannon holds high expectations for a great track season! Mary Pat Martin (Distance/Jumps) - Coach Martin is entering her 4th year coaching Track and Field at St. Pius X. As the JV Track Coach, she will focus on the fundamentals of running as well as the enjoyment. This summer she was certified as a Level 1 USA Track & Field Coach. Coach Martin looks forward to working with the long and triple jump athletes to be their best this season! Coach Martin is a Professional School Counselor at SPX and is married with four children. Both Coach Martin (86) and her husband, James (82), are St. Pius alum as well as her son, Colin (12). Her daughters, Carol (16) and Mary Grace (18), currently attend SPX. Her youngest daughter,Jamie, is in 8th grade at IHM. Coach Martin has enjoyed running and training for 13 years. Running is her passion and she loves to race in 10K's, Half-Marathons, and Marathons. Coach Martin has qualified and run in both the Boston and New York Marathons.
Hillary Purdee (Varsity Sprints/relays)
Katie McClay (JV Sprints) - Katie is entering her 3rd year of coaching at St. Pius X. She is a running form coach and works at Big Peach Running Company in Marietta. Katie loves coaching and working with young runners as they develop their technique. Katie enjoys training for every distance from the 5k to the marathon. Her love of road races is matched by her enthusiasm for trail running. Her passion for running is shared with her husband, Ryan McClay. Ryan is the head track coach and teaches physics at Saint Pius X. They have recently had a baby, Ashton, in August.
