St. Pius is offering a review course for rising ninth graders who need to review grammar before they launch into the comprehensive grammar portion of their freshman English class. This course is designed to help all levels of ninth grade students.
We will review the parts of speech and the parts of the sentence. We will work on placing commas appropriately. We will look at ways to avoid run-ons and fragments. This year we are again offering the MLA component to prepare students for formatting their English essays. Our goal is to offer the students a relaxed atmosphere in which to practice their grammar skills so that they will feel confident and comfortable on entering school in the fall. Additionally, they will meet students from other schools and be able to make new friends for the school year.
SESSION A: Monday, July 18 – Thursday, July 21 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
SESSION B: Monday, July 18 – Thursday, July 21 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
St. Pius is offering a Writing Workshop for rising ninth and tenth grade students who need to review persuasive paragraph and essay structure. We will start with looking at paragraphs as mini-essays and move toward the multi-paragraph essay. Specifically, we will look at being successful with writing introductory paragraphs, a thesis sentence, topic sentences, evidence, analysis sentences, and conclusion sentences.
