Lion Leader Program Receives National Recognition
January 14th, 2013

The Lion Leader program was recently designated a Certified Peer Program by the National Association of Peer Program Professionals. St. Pius X is the first private school in Georgia and only the second Catholic school in the United States to receive this designation.

The National Association of Peer Program Professionals (NAPPP) is a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in peer programs. Through training opportunities, professional development, and publications, the NAPPP supports its mission to "help adults establish, train, supervise, maintain and evaluate peer programs." St. Pius X's Lion Leader Program Coordinator, Mrs. Sue Reynolds, received her Certified Peer Program Educator (CPPE) designation from the organization last March.

Peer mentoring programs seeking certification must submit an extensive application detailing their adherence to NAPPP Standards and Ethics. In its review, the NAPPP Professional Development Committee found the Lion Leader program had the following strengths:

-  Comprehensive and virtuous mission statement with goals that are clear and verifiable  -  Clear and focused peer leader roles  -  -  Outstanding organizational structure and thorough program management  -  Exemplary training model with positive use of peer mentoring curriculum  - Appropriate bi-level system to transition and enhance skills for new peer leaders  - Multiple and cross-validated criteria for recruitment  - Positive marketing techniques

The Lion Leader program will be highlighted in an upcoming issue of the NAPPP newsletter, and will be featured as a model program on the organization's website.
