Food Matters

Thank you for your interest in Food Matters.  The event has reached capacity and is now SOLD OUT!

Food Matters is an evening of fun, food, and serious talk about the way we eat, featuring Walter Reeves, “The Georgia Gardener” on radio/TV, Minde Herbert of “Affordably Organic,” and representatives from Whole Foods, Publix, and Farm Burger.

Besides having fun, the goal for the evening is to get a dialogue started within the St. Pius X community about the importance of our food choices on our bodies and the environment. The idea began last year with the information AP English students explored in class with their food ethics blogs, as well as from conversations generated between students, faculty, and parents. Obesity and other health issues are a hot topic in the U.S., along with health insurance concerns, and the time is ripe for a discussion.

Minde Herbert will dispel myths about our food choices and clarify food terms, such as “natural” and “organic,” as well as explaining the “Clean 15” and “Dirty Dozen.”  Walter Reeves will entertain and enlighten as he explains deck and small space gardening that can make your home not only beautiful but also serviceable and economical. Both will be available for questions.

Food Matters is a free event, open to SPX students and their families, as well as SPX alums on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.  An RSVP is strongly encouraged. Click here to register.

Get there early! The doors to the Young Center Lobby open at 6:45 p.m. for tasting and “shopping.” Come mingle and check out books, videos, food, drinks, and sponsor offerings. The auditorium doors will open at 7:10, and the program will begin promptly at 7:15.
