Kathryn Winland, Varsity Competition Cheerleading Coach

 

Kathryn Winland is returning for her fourth year coaching the competition squad. Formerly a member of a nationally competitive cheerleading squad and a gymnastics instructor, Kathryn has many years of first-hand experience with competitive cheerleading and related activities. Kathryn was born and raised in Tennessee and moved to Atlanta to attend Oglethorpe University, where she majored in English. She now works as a Research Director for Mozaic Group, a boutique market research firm. She is married to St. Pius X teacher Joe Winland – the couple have one son, Westley.

 

Alison Bruckert, Varsity Competition Cheerleading Coach


Coach Bruckert is in her third year as Head Cheerleading Coach, fourth year as a coach for the St. Pius Cheerleading Program and sixth year coaching cheerleading. Ms. Bruckert coaches both the Varsity Football and Varsity Competition squads this year, but in her first year at SPX, coached the Varsity Basketball squad. A 2001 SPX alum, Alison was also a member of the cheerleading program when she attended high school. Ms. Bruckert currently teaches Psychology and Sociology in the Social Studies Department and is the moderator for the Senior Class Council. Additionally, she travels with the Campus Ministry Department on many international and domestic mission trips.  She is a member of GHSA and GCCA.

Ms. Bruckert attended Vanderbilt University for B.S. degrees in K-8 Education and Child Developmental Studies. She continued her schooling at The University of Georgia, where she obtained her M.Ed. in Social Science Education and Gifted Education. She is currently pursuing her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. For two years, Ms. Bruckert taught third grade at Holsenbeck Elementary in Winder, GA and coached cheerleading squads at Winder-Barrow High School. She is actively involved in the Athens community as the Recruitment Advisor for Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at the University of Georgia and is looking forward to another wonderful year with the Golden Lions.


 

 

Jenny Phillips, Varsity Competition Cheerleading Coach

This is Coach Phillips' sixth year with the St. Pius Cheerleading Program and eighth year coaching cheerleading. Coach Phillips cheered at Presbyterian College as well as all through high school on the Football, Basketball and competitive squads. She was a lifelong competitive gymnast as well as a dancer. She has also coached gymnastics for three years. Coach Phillips is a member of GHSA and GCCA, and is NFHS certified.

Mrs. Phillips graduated from Duluth High School in 1997. After graduation, she attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, where she majored in Mathematics and minored in Chemistry and Computer Science. She received her secondary certification from North Georgia College and State University and her M.Ed. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Although Mrs. Phillips' taught math at St. Pius for two years, she continues to stay at home with her children this year. Mrs. Phillips is married and has two children, Hudson (4) and Harper (2).
