Back by Popular Demand - Counselors Offer STEP Course for Parents
February 18th, 2013
Do you want to improve interactions with your teen? Ever wondered how to avoid power struggles? Do you struggle with establishing effective and meaningful discipline strategies in your household?
Back by popular demand, counselors Dr. Meredith A. Miller and Jenniffer Kapp will be teaching their Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) course.
Classes will be offered on Wednesday nights starting 2/20/13 and ending 3/20/13 from 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM. The cost of the program is $120 per family and includes a workbook for you to keep. Spaces are limited.
Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) is the most widely researched and implemented parenting program in the United States. Based on the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs, STEP trains parents on improving the effectiveness of interactions with their children. The first STEP group was held in America in 1976 and has since then enjoyed widespread popularity in schools, hospitals and clinics and organizations offering assistance to parents and educators. This program is systematic in that each successive week includes strategies and skills that are built upon learning from previous weeks.
The course is designed to teach participants about themselves and how to improve their relationships with children, family members, coworkers, strangers, everyone – guaranteed! Learn valuable lessons including: two essential directives for parenting; what style of parenting you have adopted – and how it could be hindering the relationships you have with your children; why praising rather than encouraging your child may send the wrong message; and why discipline is more effective than punishment.
