Varsity Coaches
J.T. GILBERT, VARSITY HEAD COACH
The 2012 season is Coach J.T. Gilbert's ninth year as the skipper of the Golden Lions baseball program, but eleventh year overall (he was the Assistant Varsity Coach from 2002 to 2003). Coach Gilbert is tied as the winningest coach in Golden Lions baseball history and has won more state playoff games than any other coach in the history of St. Pius X baseball. During Coach Gilbert's tenure, the Golden Lions have set school records in most wins in a season (24 in 2009) and have advanced to the state playoffs seven of the last nine years and the last six years in a row, reaching the quarterfinals twice (2004, 2009). The Golden Lions have also played two games at Turner Field (2004, 2007). Coach Gilbert is also on the Varsity Football staff where he coaches the Tight Ends. Prior to working at St. Pius X he was the pitching coach at Viterbo University for three year. Before entering the coaching ranks Coach Gilbert played baseball for the University of Minnesota from 1989-1992 as a pitcher. Before college Coach Gilbert attended Aquinas High School in Lacrosse, WI where he lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He was on three consecutive state championship teams in baseball and one runner up.

PAUL STANDARD, VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Standard, a St. Pius X Alumnus, returns for his eighth year on the baseball coaching staff. Coach Standard has been the Golden Lions Head Varsity Football Coach for the past 11 seasons. Coach Standard coached baseball from 1991 to 1998 at Dacula High School. In his last two seasons, he was the Head Coach and led the team to two State Playoff appearances. From 1999 to 2004, Coach Standard coached travel baseball teams. Coach Standard lives in Hog Mountain, GA with his wife, Cindy, and four children (Paul III (P.G.) ‘09, Elizabeth ‘10, Mary Kate ‘12, and Margaret May) and nephew Logan Rosborough ‘12.
TOM KSIONZYK, ASSISTANT VARSITY COACH
Coach Ksionzyk returns for his eighth season with the Golden Lion staff as an outfield and hitting instructor. He brings nineteen years of coaching experience, including five at Decatur High School, two as head coach. In 2003 and 2004, he led the Bulldogs to their first state playoff appearance in over thirty-five years. Coach Ksionzyk has also coached a number of summer travel teams and has led his teams to numerous national championship events. Coach Ksionzyk lives with his wife Anne in Decatur, and has two sons, Kevin a 2005 SPX graduate, and Brady.
PAUL ASSENMACHER, ASSISTANT VARSITY COACH
Coach Assenmacher returns to the Golden Lions for his sixth season as the Pitching Coach. Coach Assenmacher played Major League Baseball from 1986 to 1999 (Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Cleveland Indians). During his career, Assenmacher pitched in 884 games (883 of them in relief) - ranking 27th on the all time list. He had a career Earned Run Average of 3.53 and pitched in two World Series. Coach Assenmacher pitched at Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), prior to his professional baseball career, where he was named an NAIA All American twice and inducted into the Aquinas Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach Assenmacher lives in Alpharetta with his wife, Maggie, and children (Jason, Candace, Lindsay, Morgan, and Clayton).
ANDY MAY, ASSISTANT VARSITY COACH
The 2012 season is Coach May's thirteenth year with the SPX baseball program. Coach May was the Head Middle School White Coach for the Golden Lions for eleven seasons (2001-2011) after being the Assistant Coach in 2000. Under Coach May's leadership, his Middle School teams had a .630 winning percentage and won three league championships (2001, 2003, 2009). Coach May is a PiHi graduate (1974) and was the left fielder for the first SPX baseball team to qualify for the state tournament. Coach May spends his days working in commercial construction. Coach May and his wife, Kerry, live in Dunwoody and have four children and one grandchild.
