SPX Baseball Wins 2013 Season Opener

St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity survives North Forsyth 8-4 thanks to Pelt's late-game heroics -  

 

Jack Pelt drove in the go-ahead run to give St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity the lead in the eighth inning, as St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity hung on to beat North Forsyth 8-4 on Wednesday.

 

Peter Zyla singled to get on base in the eighth. He then went from first to second on a stolen base.

 

Brandon Mitchell racked up three RBIs on three hits for St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the second and eighth innings.

 

Ryan Brennan brought the heat against North Forsyth during his outing.  Brennan held North Forsyth hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out none.

 

Mike Krill recorded the win for St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity. He tossed two innings of shutout ball, and surrendered no hits.

 

St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity's threat began with a double by Mitchell. A single by Grant Williams then moved Mitchell from second to third. Jack Walsh doubled, bringing home Mitchell and Williams. St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions Varsity added more runs when Walsh and Zyla scored on a two-run double by Jack Spear.

 

North Forsyth tied the game in the third on a two-run double by Michael Henderson that scored Nick Aiken and Bailey Mauldin.
