February 19th, 2015

St. Pius X Catholic High School is pleased to announce five students have been named Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition for 2015. St. Pius X has had at least three National Merit Scholarship Finalists in 14 of the previous 15 years and has had 80 National Merit Scholar Finalists since 2000.

The five National Merit Scholar Finalists from St. Pius X are: Carter A. Grabbe, Connor J. Huddleston, Andrew J. Jacon, Joe W. Kilpatrick III, and Caroline R. Porter.

“This recognition is a tribute to St. Pius X, its teachers, the quality of the curriculum and student participation. This really is a testament to the high-quality of the classroom instruction and the attentiveness of the students,” said St. Pius X Dean of Academics, John Griffith.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT—a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million Participants each year—Of the 1.5 million participants, only the top ½ of 1% of all those nationwide who participate in the Competition achieve Finalist recognition.
