Diane is super excited to be a middle school cheerleading coach this year! She is a 10th grader at SPX, and is a cheerleader herself. Diane joins the high school coaching staff with a wealth of knowledge. She cheered as an Atlanta Colt at Murphy Candler from the time she was 4 years old until 5th grade. In 6th grade, Diane joined the SPX Cheerleading Program, and absolutely loved it! She cheered for the Middle School Football Cheerleading program all three years of middle school at SMES. Her freshman year at St. Pius, Diane was a cheerleader for the JV Football and Basketball teams. This year Diane will cheer on the Varsity Football and Varsity Basketball squads.
After two seasons full of cheerleading, Diane runs on the Track and Field team. At school, she is a member of the photography club and baking club. When she is not at SPX she enjoys being with friends and family, and just having fun! Diane is looking forward to a great season with the 8th grade cheerleaders and can’t wait to share her love of cheering! GO LIONS!!
Sydney “Squid” Henry is excited to join the high school coaching staff this season! She has been a part of the SPX Middle School Football Cheerleading program since 7th grade and just completed her 11th year of cheerleading. Sydney is a former Atlanta Colts and Stingray cheerleader. Her freshman year at SPX, Sydney cheered for both the Freshmen Football and Basketball squads. She was even selected as the captain during football season! This year Sydney will be cheering on the JV Football squad and the Varsity Basketball squad!
When she isn’t cheering, which isn’t often, Sydney enjoys going to the beach with her family and spending time with her friends. At only 15, she works as a buyer for The Monogramming Queen.com. Sydney was a counselor at St. Pius X’s Little Lions Camp this summer, and can’t wait to start coaching with a great group of girls!
Abby Petersen is elated to coach Middle School Football Cheerleading for the first time! She learned to cheer as a cheerleader for the Atlanta Colts, and joined the SPX Cheerleading program her freshman year. Abby has cheered on the Freshmen and JV squads for both Football and Basketball, and was selected as a captain for the JV Basketball squad. This year she will cheer on the Varsity Basketball squad with her favorite coach, Coach Garrison.
Abby is a member of the National Honor Society, STAND club, and the running club at SPX. When she isn't cheering for SPX, you can find her doing homework, spending money at the mall, or playing with her dog, Duke. She loves spending time with all of her friends and family of seven! Abby is excited for the season to start, and can't wait to spend time with all the girls!
Emily Anne Sewell
Emily Anne is thrilled to start her first year of coaching Middle School Football Cheerleading. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Emily Anne brings years of experience and her love of cheer to the high school coaching staff. She started cheering when she was in first grade for the Northside Youth Organization (NYO) in Chastain Park. Emily Anne is the youngest cheerleader to cheer in the SPX Middle School Football Cheerleading program, making the 6/7th Grade squad as a 5th grader. She cheered on the SPX Middle School Football Cheerleading squads all three years of middle school. During her time at Christ the King, Emily Anne cheered on the 8th Grade Basketball squad. At SPX she has cheered for both Football and Basketball at the Freshmen and JV levels. This year Emily Anne will be cheering for the Varsity Basketball squad! She was a counselor at last summer’s Little Lions Camp and has helped out with various cheer clinics around Atlanta.
When Emily Anne is not cheering, you can find her working at Sugar Boo, shopping with Abby at the mall, or laying by the pool in her back yard. She loves hanging out with her friends and family, and especially loves spending time with her three older brothers. She is excited to share her SPX spirit and can’t wait for all of the fun that the season will bring!
