St. Pius X Golden Lions
TERRY OWENS, HEAD 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Owens enters his 20th year as a community coach. He is the head coach of the 7th/6th grade football team. Coach Owens played football at the University of Alabama, and then Jacksonville State University. After college, Coach Ownes was signed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. He & his wife, Donna, have 5 children, Terry Lee, who is married and has two daughters, lives in Loganville, Alexis, who is married and has a son, lives in Covington, Jacqueline, Elizabeth, and Natalie. All 5 children have attended and graduated from SPX.
RONNIE CONE, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Cone begins his 13th year as a coach for the Golden Lions. Coach Cone played football for Georgia Tech, where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. Coach Cone was drafted by the New York Jets in the 1984 NFL draft and played for the team as a running back for three seasons. He has been a youth league coach for 16 years at Central DeKalb. He and his wife Janet have three children; Kevin (SPX í06), a Georgia Tech graduate and wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, Zachary (24), a graduate of The University of Georgia and outfielder in the Texas Rangers organization, and Amy (21), a student at Georgia State University.
MIKE FANNON ASSISTANT 8TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Fannon (SPX í74) played football under the legendary coach George B. Maloof while lettering in basketball and track at St. Pius X. Coach Fannon has been with the Golden Lion football program for the past 13 years, 12 with the middle school teams and 1 as the Head Junior Varsity Coach. From 1984 to 1985, Coach Fannon was the Head 8th Grade Coach at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. Coach Fannon spent 27 years with the DeKalb County Police Department and currently is a police officer at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. He is married to Paula Thomas Fannon (SPX ë82) and has two wonderful daughters, Danielle (SPX 2007), a graduate of Kennesaw State who is currently the president of the SPX Alumni Board, and Megan (SPX 2009), a Georgia Southern graduate now working for the Mobile Bay Bears, a minor league baseball team.
KEVIN McCORMICK, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach McCormick begins his 11th year as a St. Pius X community coach. After graduating from Xavier University (1980), Coach McCormick began coaching football under legendary coach Gerry Faust at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, followed by stints on the football staff at the University of Notre Dame and the enforcement staff of the NCAA. He has continued to coach football at various levels while maintaining his career in sales and management, and is the vice president of PermaTherm, Inc. When not working or coaching, McCormickís interests (do not) include base jumping, hang gliding, shark wrangling, or extreme open ocean distance swimming. His wonderful wife, Mary Ann, is a teacher at St. Martinís Episcopal School; son Chris (Pius í06) an All-America diver while at St. Pius and a graduate of University of Alabama works in revenue management at Interstate Hotel Group; daughter Caitlin, a graduate of Appalachian State University, is the Development Coordinator for Honduras Outreach, Inc.; and daughter Ellie is currently a Senior majoring in communications at Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA.
WIL ASIP, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Asip begins his second year coaching running backs and linebackers for the middle school program. Coach Asip began his football career at St. Pius X playing tailback under Coach Owens for the Middle School team during the 2001 and 2002 football seasons. Coach Asip is a 2007 graduate of St. Pius X, where he played tailback for four years under Coach Standard. During his senior year, the team made it to the State Semi-Finals in the Georgia Dome. He also ran track for St. Pius X (2006 State Champions). Coach Asip, a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Construction Management, works in Project Management for a General Contractor in Atlanta and lives in Buckhead.
DYLAN KNIGHT, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Knight begins his second year coaching Middle School Football at St. Pius X. He coaches the Quarter Backs and is Asst. Offensive Coordinator for the 7th grade team. Coach Knight is a 2008 graduate of St. Pius X, where he played quarterback for four years under Head Coach, Paul Standard (First Team All-County 2007, DeKalb County All-Star Team in 2007). Knight went on to play Quarterback for Catholic University (2 years). Dylan is a graduate of The University of Mississippi with degrees in both Business Management and English. He works in Project Management for a General Contractor in Atlanta and lives in Virginia Highlands.
JACKSON SMITH, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE COACH
Coach Smith begins his first year coaching Middle School Football at St. Pius X. He coaches the Offensive and Defensive lines for the 7th grade team. Coach Smith is a 2012 graduate of St. Pius, where he played Offensive Tackle under Head Coach, Paul Standard (Dekalb County All-Star Team 2012). Jackson attended Georgia Southern University for 2 years and starts at Georgia State University this year to work on a degree in Education. Coach Smith currently lives in Atlanta.
BO ZIMMERMAN, ASSISTANT 7TH GRADE FOOTBALL COACH
Coach Zimmerman enters his 4th year of working with the 6th & 7th grade receivers & defensive backs. He is a2004 graduate of St. Pius X and played under Coach Paul Standard. Bo also played four years of basketball for the Golden Lions.
